NOTE ABOUT THE MAPPING FUNCTION:
We hope you will find the mapping function helpful. Clicking on the address line for the shiva will open Google maps to the address and can also provide driving instructions from that page.
We remind you that for safety's sake, please take care not to search the map while driving.
Please be advised that maps provided by Google do not follow the naming conventions that we in the GTA are familiar with. Google may only recognise "Thornhill" as being the area east of Yonge St and north of Steeles.
For areas west of Yonge and north of Steeles we try to provide the best search option we can while maintaining our normal place names. Google may recognise this area as "Vaughan" which is not the usual area we in the GTA associate that place name.
Add your message to the Steeles online personal condolence book.
Copies of the condolences are available to immediate family members on request.

Tom Valcke   11/9/13 11:23 PM

This is one of many memorable anecdotes involving Bob, and I chose to share it because it was funny, but also telling of the type of soul Bob had. While scouting in California in the early 90's, Bob, Kevin Bly and myself were together 24/7, even sharing the hotel room at night. We began in Northern California, and finished up in LA. It was a great week, but admittedly, somewhat of a cranky week for dear Bob. He was an extremely light sleeper, and at night when I was doing my reports, I literally sat on the edge of the bathtub with my computer on the closed toilet seat, with the door closed, and a towel laid at the bottom to prevent the light from escaping, and still, I would hear Bob murmur “Are you almost finished?” We were flying home out of LAX, and checked into the nearby Hilton the night before. Kevin, an adventurous one, and I decided to go take in an LA Kings hockey game (Gretzky was still with them). Bob was beat and we had an early flight, so we all thought it would be a good idea for him to stay back, get to bed, and sleep in peace. Kevin and I justified our next endeavour by convincing ourselves that we were doing it for Bob, as the longer we stayed out, the more quality sleep he would have. We decided to go to a nearby Casino afterward the hockey game. We wound up staying there for the night, figuring we might as well not bother going to bed at all, just head back to the hotel, shower, and head to LAX, then sleep on the plane. Again, we justified that this wasn’t for our entertainment, but rather, for the love of Bob. Well, when we tip-toed into the room at about 6:00am, Bob HAD NOT SLEPT A WINK!!! He was steaming mad at us, pacing back and forth all night, upset that we hadn’t called, worried that we had gotten into harm’s way – he was a true Mother Hen. We didn’t laugh about it much that day, but many, many times since. I love you too Bob!

Michael Reiss   11/11/13 12:35 AM

Dear Deborah and family, I was saddened to hear about Bob's passing. Please accept my sincere condolences. I was very fortunate to have had the opportunity to play for Bob for a number of years with team Ontario. My fondest memory with Bob was our flight home from Brandon, Manitoba - after winning Gold at the Canadian National Champions. It was a memory I will never forget - one of the greatest achievements in my baseball career. I remember sitting with Bob and talking about the experience. I remember the big smile on his face and him talking about how proud he was of the program, the players and the staff for overcoming tough odds and winning the tournament. He made a tremendous impact on me and my career as a baseball player and I am sure many others. I feel very luck to have had the opportunity to play under his leadership. He was charismatic, charming and was passionate about developing Canadian baseball talent. As a jewish kid from Thornhill, with big dreams of playing pro baseball - Bob's encouragement and support created the path for me to achieve my goals. Bob will truly be missed but his impact on the community has been simply tremendous. I am very proud to have known him and to have had him as my coach.

A great, loving friend and wonderful companion, with a truly guteh neshumah. A doting and proud Father and Grandfather, and most devoted and loving husband to Debra. Bob was a man of courage who also, possessed a sense of boyish wonder at the world. Relationships were at the core of his being and giving of himself to others was always a first thought. Rest in peace, Bobby...you will always remain a mensch among menschen. Know that you did 'real good' in your life and that you will always be loved and missed.

Dearest Debra & Family; My deepest condolences for your loss. Bob was an industry leader- and a friend. I have a fond memory of Bob and I- many, many years ago on vacation- walking on a beach down south. We were talking business, as usual. We ended our discussion with a drink and a 'stirring' rendition of "Moon River". Knowing Bob was truly a joy and a privilege. My thoughts and prayers are to you and your children.

Gary and Karin French   12/10/13 5:05 PM

Our heartfelt condolences to Bob's family, especially Debra, Paul, Julie and her family, who gave Bob his cherished grandchildren. Bob was a business colleague who became a close and valued friend over the 30+ years that I knew him and came to appreciate his outstanding personal qualities. He was a man of high integrity and character, who left everyone and his industry better for knowing him. He was fair, sharing, caring and kind and offered his help to any and all who sought it. In a very competitive and secretive staffing industry, he was a beacon of knowledge and a friend to all. A baseball game with Bob was an experience. He could be munching on a hotdog and talking to three people around us and still tell me where the next pitch was going and whether it would be hit and where it would go, even as he wiped mustard from his shirt! My wife, also a staffing industry veteran, and I will miss him. Gary and Karin French (Toronto) Kelly Services, Olsten Corp., Work International, Logical Options, Drake International

Mitch Fralick   12/21/13 7:04 AM

I was very sad to get the news of Bob's passing. Bob represented my partner and me in the sale of our business that we had spent 20 years of our lives building. It is a stessful process, but Bob managed to keep everyone calm and focused. That was more than 6 years ago and we have stayed in contact since. He was a very special person with the gift of making you feel secure. I know he will be missed by the family...I will miss him as well. God Bless you Bob, I am better person because our paths crossed!
